    HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

    When energy activity in your area is higher than usual, we call this an "Empower Hours event." You will receive notifications about an Empower Hours event, as they can last up to 4 hours. However, you will always be in control, and you can change your thermostat temperature whenever you want.

     

    The only thing you have to do is sign up – we’ll do everything else. You’ll earn a $25 bill credit for signing up and possibly lower your bills by reducing your energy usage, all without breaking a sweat.

    What is Empower Hours Smart Thermostat?

    Empower Hours Smart Thermostat is a demand response program in which Discount Power may automatically change the temperature on a smart thermostat by as much as 4°. The goal is to lower demand on the electricity grid during times of increased electricity demand or extreme temperatures. Such scenarios are often referred to as Empower Hours events.

    These small adjustments can help your energy bill, your local community and the environment. You’ll never miss a notification, and you don’t need to worry about being home when an event happens. You will receive notifications in a variety of formats, and your thermostat will automatically change to an energy-saving temperature without you doing anything.

    While an Empower Hours event can extend up to 4 hours in length, you are always in charge because you can change the thermostat settings at any time.

    Your home must use an eligible smart thermostat from either Sensi, Google Nest or Honeywell Home. You must also have Wi-Fi and an active account with the app for your smart thermostat. That eligible smart thermostat must be connected to your home’s Wi-Fi when you sign up for the Empower Hours Smart Thermostat program. After you sign up, you will get notifications across a range of platforms if an Empower Hours event begins.

    You must set up your thermostat using the free Honeywell Total Connect Comfort app to be signed up for Empower Hours Smart Thermostat.

    You can enroll additional thermostats as needed.

    If the electricity grid requires energy conservation, Discount Power may announce an Empower Hours event. They typically occur between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. If this happens, you will be notified through various channels.

Your notifications can depend on your thermostat type:

    Google Nest: A gold gear appears on your Google Nest screen, and the Nest app announces an Energy Rush Hour.

    Honeywell: Total Connect Comfort app announces an Energy Savings Event.

    Sensi: If an event happens, the Sensi thermostat shows “Active Savings Event,” as well as the time the event should end. The Sensi app will share the same information.

    Your smart thermostat may change its settings by no more than 4°. You can overrule those automatic changes at any time. At the end of the event, the thermostat returns to its normal settings and schedule.

    Yes, these events can happen and for various reasons, including extreme weather events or power outages that require stabilizing the electric grid. Discount Power can hold an Empower Hours event at any time of day. While multiple events can happen in one day, you can always decide not to participate.

    No, you do not. Though your smart thermostat may automatically change its settings to conserve electricity while keeping you comfortable, you have the choice to keep the temperature where you want it and not take part in that particular event.

    To opt out, simply change the temperature directly on your smart thermostat or on the app. Your thermostat then adjusts your settings back to their normal schedule.

    Yes. Enrolling in the Empower Hours Smart Thermostat program with Discount Power earns you a one-time $25 bill credit.

    You will see the bill credit on your Discount Power account within two billing cycles of completing your enrollment.

    No, it does not.

    Yes. You must call Discount Power at 1-877-455-4674 to end your enrollment in the Empower Hours Smart Thermostat program.
